London, Paris, Rome, Amalfi Coast - Day 4

With military precision we’re up this morning and on the way to Paris… Well perhaps there was some scrambling around and a mild dash to the train station.  Nonetheless we make our way to St Pancras and board the Eurostar.

London, Paris, Rome, Amalfi Coast - Day 2

Porridge with organic Greek style Coconut yoghurt, it’s a great combination and way to start the day.  The sun is out too, so breakfast is soon followed by morning tea on the garden porch, featuring some amazing homemade chocolate brownies baked by Zoe’s mum, Betty.

On April 2 a group of us went white water rafting in the Tully River as part of a bucks weekend for our good friend Sam.

With the recent floods and continual rain, the river was rather more menacing than usual.  In fact, a mere inch higher and the whole expedition would have started from a safer entry point downstream.

“Well that’s lucky,” we all agreed. “We don’t want to miss out on the whole experience.”

Well that’s cetainly what we got, capped off by a serious wipe-out that left 4 out of 7 of us in hospital at various stages over subsequent weeks.  In fact as I write this now, one of our friends Angus is only just being discharged after more than three weeks and multiple operations on his injured leg (longest bucks weekend ever?).  Not to mention the wedding almost being postponed due to the groom’s injuries, the CAT scan showing another of us passed out briefly underwater and the cracked vertabrate and bulging disc another of us had to endure.  Thankfully I managed to escape with some bumps and bruises, along with the mere memory of almost drowning.

Despite all this it certainly makes one hell of a story, especially for the hospitalised.  It was undoubtedly fun and exciting but I have a sneaking suspicion the next bucks will be slightly less adventurous.

The month of May 2011

Starting to settle into new consulting role for eBay, working within their brand & marketing team on a whole bunch of interesting projects that continue to challenge traditional retail.  Travelled to the UK, France and Italy, including a few relaxing days spent in the Amalfi Coast where I learnt about their equally frenetic and laissez-faire lifestyle.  Surprised after a prolonged search that my girlfriend Zoe and I finally agreed on some new dining room chairs… No more weekend trips to look at chairs!

London, Paris, Rome, Amalfi Coast - Day 3

Today is a family affair.  After a brief jaunt to Marks & Spencer in the morning, we head back to the house where the Lardner family congregates for lunch.  It’s great getting to see everyone, I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 1/2 years since I was last here.

London, Paris, Rome, Amalfi Coast - Day 1

After a bit of a morning rush around we made it to Sydney airport just in time.  Literally a couple minutes later and check-in would have closed, so we were quite relieved to find ourselves through airport security and customs in record-breaking time.  And so the adventure begins!

The mini golf series continues.  I believe we’re now tied at one win apiece.  So far each game has gone down to the last hole, with one or two ‘shots’ being the difference.
